What Is Truth?

This question is one of the most profound statements in Scriptures, spoken by an unlikely figure.

The New Testament refers to him as Pontius Pilate, the Roman prefect (governor) of Judea under Emperor Tiberius from 26 to 36 C.E.

The events unfolded when Yahushua the Messiah was brought before Pontius Pilate by the Jewish religious leaders, who sought to have him executed by the Roman authorities.

Historical evidence dates this event to Abib 14, Passover day, in the year 30 C.E., corresponding to Thursday, April 6.

Could Pilate grasp some sense of truth from Yahushua?

Messiah Convicted of Blasphemy

Did Yahushua the Messiah actually commit blasphemy, a charge that led to his conviction and death sentence by the religious leaders of Judaea?

Was there any scriptural basis for the extreme hatred these leaders harbored toward Yahushua, ultimately resulting in their desire for his death?

To the religious leaders responsible for Yahushua’s conviction and execution, the Messiah had much to say:

You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (John 8:44)

Are there any facts that indicate Yahushua committed the scriptural crime of blasphemy, thereby justifying his execution?

Motive to Murder Yahushua

Was the motive for murdering Yahushua his claim to be the Messiah? It seems like a reasonable question, but is it true?

Why was such extraordinary anger and hostility directed toward Yahushua the Messiah by the religious leaders? What caused this hostility that ultimately led to the Messiah’s death sentence at his trial by these religious leaders?

Could there be another reason for Yahushua’s unlawful execution?

Might that reason be directly related to his use of the sacred name Yahweh?
